New patient registration

1. New patient registration

LASIK information

2. Study detailed LASIK information at the LASIK educational center ( 50 minutes)

Pupil size measurement

3. Pupil size measurement
This is to determine the risk of glare or halos after LASIK surgery

Corneal topography

4. Corneal Topography

- This is to detect any abnormality of the shape of the cornea which may be a contraindication for LASIK

    - If you are a LASIK candidate, this measurement is to help to see your corneal curvature in order to select the best microkeratome to fit your eyes

UCVA

5. Refraction before the dilating eye drops

IOP

6. Intraocular pressure measurement
A high intraocular pressure reading may indicate glaucoma, which can be a contraindication for LASIK

Eye dilating

7. Eye dilation
Dilation (widening) of the pupil is important so doctors can check the health of the inside of the eye. It takes 30 minutes for the drops to work and they will last 4-6 hours. While your pupils are dilated, you may experience temporary light sensitivity and blurry vision.

Refraction

8. Refraction after the dilating eye drops

We check the refractive error once again to make sure that we get the same measurements as we did at first.

WASCA

9. WASCA
This machine measures the higher order aberrations to be corrected with wavefront-guided LASIK

Examination with a doctor

10. Examination with the doctor
Your surgeon will thoroughly examine the overall health of your eyes along with the measurements that have been taken to determine if LASIK surgery is right for you.

Possible scenarios for discussion with your surgeon before having LASIK surgery:

  - You have healthy eyes with an average risk of side effects and can do LASIK surgery.  You can then make an appointment for the surgery.
  - You may be a LASIK candidate but you have dry eyes, infection, glaucoma or a retinal problem. You may have to undergo other treatment before you are cleared for LASIK surgery.
  - You are not qualified for LASIK due to an eye problem, your general health or mental status. You may be recommended to have a different kind of treatment besides LASIK, such as PRK, Phakic IOL or Cataract surgery.

11. Another eye examination by a specialist (if needed)

**Remarks : The pre-operative eye examination will take approximately 3.5 hours. This depends on individual examination and consultation with the doctor.
