The preoperative eye examination has two purposes: to determine your candidacy for surgery and take the necessary eye measurements for your vision correction. The pre-operative eye examination will take approximately 3.5 hours. This depends on individual examination and consultation with the doctor.
The timeline for eye measurements and ordering of the custom ICL lens is also outlined below. Please note that due to this extended timeline, most international patients must make two trips to Bangkok. The first will be for the preoperative eye exam, ICL measurements, and YAG Peripheral Iridotomy, while the second trip will be for the Phakic IOL surgery and follow-up care. Phakic IOL surgery is a unilateral procedure, meaning surgery will not be performed on the second eye until the first eye has healed. For follow-up care, the 1 week follow-up is required at TRSC for each eye that has undergone surgery.

2. Phakic IOL measurements
- Special eye measurements will be taken to determine the specifics of your custom ICL lens. The ICL lenses will be ordered from the Switzerland and will arrive in Bangkok according to the following timeline:
- approximately 4 weeks for normal ICL lens |
- 8 weeks for Toric ICL lens |
YAG PI (YAG Peripheral Iridotomy)
YAG laser is applied to make two to three small openings in the peripheral iris, the colored portion of the eyes. The openings guard against possible elevation of intraocular pressure immediately following the implantation of the new lens. This must be performed at least 2 weeks prior to the ICL surgery. |
